From the first day of training, many aspiring doctors are taught — subtly or directly — to “know their place.”

Questioning seniors can be seen as disrespect. Proposing new ideas can be brushed off as “inexperience.”

Problem #9: Medical hierarchy can silence fresh voices.

Why it matters:

  • Innovation is slowed when only senior voices are heard.

  • Junior staff may spot issues but feel unsafe to speak up.

  • Patient care suffers when ideas are shut down before they’re heard.

The medical world can’t afford to waste good ideas — no matter where they come from.

Respect for experience should never come at the cost of silencing progress.
